Smoking – a key factor in the formation of wrinkles

wrinkles removal

In 1985, the phrase “Smokers Face” was added to the Medical Dictionary. It is used when talking about the characteristics of wrinkles and lines surrounding the lips and eyes – it also encapsulates the general signs of with aging, which are made worse by smoking.

Despite the media attention and the tens of millions of dollars every year spent on cosmetics and skin wrinkle removers, many millions more are spent on the single worst habit which makes the problem much greater and harder to deal with.

Within the medical community and now the population in general, it is accepted that any type of smoking, whether cigarettes, cigars or other, adversely impacts our health. It is sometimes less appreciated though that it impacts our skins health and appearance through the release of free radicals.

These “imbalanced particles” react with our skin by damaging perfectly healthy cells in the outer layer of skin known as the epidermis The damge they inflict on the skin is cumulative and as a person gets olders, the combined affect can be significant.

Not only do free radicals which are contained in every puff of smoke which affect our appearance. Smoking just one cigarette depletes our Vitamin C levels stored within the body. This essential vitamin is directly involved in the creation of collagen which is a vital component of healthy looking skin.

In addition to this, Vitamin C acts as a powerful anti-oxidant which assist massively in reducing the effect of free radicals. So not only does the skin lose its ability to replenish itself, it also suffers from the lost ability to defend itsef from aging in the first instance.

One of the best methods, therefore, of avoiding wrinkles and lines is to stop smoking and reduce any type of exposure to environments which are smoky Of course, there are many other important factors which make the stopping of smoking a great benefit to your health and general wellbeing. It is of course a better idea not to take it up in the first place!
